My City

The branch of heaven


Santiago de Cali, a city of Colombia we can say it's like everything has its virtues and difficulties.
Then the stepwise know you no longer need to travel.
Cali is the capital of the department of Valle de Cauca, and the third largest city of the Republic of Colombia. Cali was founded in 1536, makes it one of the oldest cities in Latin America has 477 years, was founded by Sebastian Belalcázar, salsa dancing has been classified as one of the most outstanding characteristics as most of Cali have that swing dancing that genre.
The city itself has had a rapid growth of its population since 1930, most of the residents are from the Cauca Valley, who have decided to leave behind crops incorporated into urban life. One of the characteristics of its population is mostly young. The estimated population of the city is increasingly de2.244.639 increases and that was the survey until 2012.


Its major attractions are:

Cristo Rey: The Statue of Christ the King is a religious monument located on the hill the Crystals that offers the best view of the city. The statue is 31 meters high, from which 5 m belong to the basis.
Zoologico de Cali: Considered one of the top three in Latin America, the zoo houses in its eleven acres to more than two thousand animales.83 Located next to Cali river, just where valley and mountains get together. Nearby is the Botanical Garden of Cal, founded by Jorge Enrique Orejuela.

Parque del Perro : Located in San Fernando, is located one of the most popular areas of the city, with several restaurants and bars. It's party place, where you can also have a nice dinner. The park gets its name because it has a dog monument in the middle.
 Avenida San Joaquín: Located south of the city in the Garden City neighborhood is a popular area in the city.
Calle 66: It is located south of the city and in recent years has become a new area with several pink restaurants, bars and nightclubs.
Menga: Located north of Santiago de Cali, is one of the most representative of the rumba in the city, where you can find all the rhythms at the same time, it is also a platform to see the best artists in action, facilities very comfortable club atmosphere, the latest audio technology and robotic lights, the best rumba crossover.

Monument Belalcázar Sebastian: It is the most visited monument and popular in the city located in the hills overlooking the city, west of the city. The monument is famous for its pointing finger which is the point in the opposite direction of the valley, while its face is looking down on the city.
Rio de Cali is one of the most peaceful areas of the city, the river is in the west and is surrounded by restaurants, hotels and museums like "La Tertulia", an art museum.
• San Antonio: It is the oldest neighborhood in the city of Cali. Although it was separated by Fifth Street, still retains its traditional aura. The whole neighborhood is on a hill, and on top is the Park of San Antonio. In the area you can also find some restaurants. Nearby, is the Artisan Park Loma de la Cruz, with a great variety of handicrafts of the region.
Juanchito: It is a place with a large number of clubs dedicated to salsa music (Agapito, Chango, etc), and next to some of the poorest areas of the city. While many prefer to keep it off the list, and is notorious Juanchito deserves mention. Technically, belongs to another municipality, but it is often visited by Cali. It is said that if Cali is the capital of salsa, Juanchito is the temple that worships his cult. To get there, the Cali must pass a bridge over the Cauca river, which has been immortalized in the song Salsa entitled "From the bridge there is Juanchito".
Farallones de Cali: Los Farallones de Cali are a national park, protected by the government. In recent years it has boomed as a tourist destination for a wide range of different people; adventurous climbing, hiking, paragliding, naturists for its natural environment and of life, or simply for those seeking rest and a tempering climate .




The changes that have taken place over the last 100 years:
First of all we must highlight corruption, the increase of population brought with it a major problem was poverty but we can not blame only take this action but also the lack of work and unjust government as only thought making money and the rest of the country is out. Highlight also had a critical change in which was born the guerrillas and the paramilitaries and Colombia since has been one of the countries with a high risk of violence. Thanks to the self-centeredness and greed of some politicians raised a war that so far has not stopped.



Changes intended for the future:
the most important change is lessen poverty, corruption and young people to study and go prepared to combat the problems that attack Colombia.
Stop drug trafficking and guerrilla
Make peace agreement with groups ranging discover justice, end unemployment and combat violence.
